Notes

  • Tech report on Mapper Driver proposal

Maureen gave summary of driver concept in mapper.

Discussion got into boundaries, limited cases to examine boundaries.

Bob: Proposal - use google spreadsheets as an output from the web UI to examine boundary.

Maureen: Would rather support things people are using.

Not take Arctos off the table because it doesn't have defined API's, specify doesn't either.

SVN: Maureen adding two folders to the FP-Network project trunk, main development work going on there.

  • Reports from iDigBio presentation (James)

James: Hub as resource for TCNs, not normative standard. Much brainstorming about things hub could do, not so much to prioritizing, leaving that to the hub. Intending several workshops to explore focused issues over next couple of years.

On FP side, lots of interest in FP. Onus is on us to produce something people can use. Hub would like to be able to implement. Hub can help with helpdesk/documentation. Development isn't going to come from hub. Happy to work with us to obtain more funding. Kepler Kuration demo caught people's attention.

Hub is still takling about central/distributed repository for all data and images.

Observation: Everyone has a croudsourcing story - often to the case of not funding people to do the data capture work.

  • Report from Poster (Bob)

Bob: Two meetings, one for FP, things of interest in both. Poster: IDCC international digital curation conference (5th), Most attendees and most presentations on preservation part of digital curation, very few talks/atendees invovled in creating digital records, a few involved in start of projects that create digital records and then preseserve them. In hour and a half at poster, 5-10 people spend 5-10 minutes getting something from the poster. Only a few knew about computerized workflows, those that did used Taverna, aware of Kepler. People interested to know that you could do this stuff. Successfull in putting Kepler Kuration and FP infront of new community. Digging in to Kuration workflows with Lei was very helpful. Other meeting (semantic web applications and technologies for biosciences), things of interest. Interesting stuff about provenance (sent email to list). Platform that supports deploying semantically enabled resources - developed by canadian group. May be suitable for handling semantic reasoning for queries (SADIE services). Developed no new stuff, just a platform that implements best practices. Asking wc3 to start an incubation group about developing semantic services.
