Agenda

  • TDWG
    • Reports
    • Task Group for Applicability Statement on OA
  • Embedded Kepler
  • Progress on iDigBio and SCAN integration.
  • Progress on pubsubhubub implementation test.

Non-Tech

  • Collaborations
    • Specify/Symbiota
    • SCAN TCN
    • NEVP TCN (Digitization apparatus, TACC, Symbiota integration call this week).

Reports

  • Paul
    • Specify-Symbiota-FP integration meeting at iDigBio TCN Summit. Ed, Jim, Rod, Corrina, Paul. Symbiota has three relevant fields, primary key from source, catalog number, guid. Symbiota maintains change history of records (doesn't display yet, but records). Novel records created in Symbiota have null for the primary key from source. Four scenarioes: Record in Symbiota but not in Specify (reverse harvest); Record in Specify but not in Symbiota (harvest); Record in Specify and Symbiota, changed in Specify (reharvest and overwrite symbiota); Record in both, changed in both (FP case). Decision was made to start by working on the first two cases.
  • Jim
    • Neil Cobb (PI, SCAN) distributed a SCAN Update to project personnel this past week. The following passage regarding databases is of interest to FP: "Everyone is set up with the database(s) they will use and has either submitted initial bulk legacy data or they are very close. We have over 100,000 records entered and ASU, CSU, UA, and NAU are all entering new data into the SCAN Symbiota portal. James has Specify up and running at TTU and BYU is using Specify as well. KE-Emu is developing a link with Filtered Push so that should make DMNS happy." Please let Paul or me know if you'd like to see the entire message.

Notes

FilteredPush Team meeting 2012 Oct 31 Present: James, Heather, Jim, Maureen, Bertram, Tianhong Agenda

  • TDWG
    • Reports
    • Task Group for Applicability Statement on OA
  • Embedded Kepler
Tianhong:

- got VM access on the iDigBio machines, copied Kepler to VM, next: running Kepler there - learning about LUCENE/SOLR - created spreadsheet to match use cases with Kepler curation actors - Next Steps: -- executing simple curation workflows ("hello world") -- David: to provide some example (and doc) how to wrap-in a service -- dataset examples, data access from Kepler -- dataset format: DarwinCore in RDF? ABCD? -- KISS? csv? (sorry, couldn't resist :) json? -- any concrete datasets? From Kuration workflow? -- Taxon Name Cleaning ==> dataset checked in the Kepler/Curation package

  • Bertram has access too, and also got emacs running! :)

sudo apt-get install emacs23 --> worked just fine

  • Progress on iDigBio and SCAN integration.

At iDigBio, Ed demonstrated current state of integration. Next step is to finish switch to OA, and in parallel switch to FP-medium.

  • Progress on pubsubhubub implementation test.

Non-Tech

  • Collaborations
    • Specify/Symbiota

Notes on the wiki. Case: new data in Symbiota that needs to go into Specify, will work on updated data after.

    • SCAN TCN

Will need to implement a driver for MCZ's Arctos. Paul will draft an email to Linda about this. Maureen needs to get back with the KEmu developer about a documented driver interface.

    • NEVP TCN (Digitization apparatus, TACC, Symbiota integration call this week).

TDWG: Relatively small attendance, mainly Europeans and a few N. Americans and Australians. EZID is a service that issues identifiers, being recommended by BiSciCol. (=> John Kunze's brain child) http://www.cdlib.org/services/uc3/ezid/ EZID pricing: http://n2t.net/ezid/home/pricing BioVEL (Walter Berendsohn, Anton .. ) http://www.biovel.eu/ => Kurator/P Annotation Interest Group: well attended, both annotation presentations including David's were given right before. People are happy that a standard is being developed. "Motivation," "expectation," and "evidence" seemed to some people to be too general. Applicability statement requested. Some interest in generating annotations on taxon treatments in Plazi and Pensoft, AnnoSys Paul will work on a charter for the task group, put meeting notes up on TDWG wiki Friday tech meeting: Kepler integration, data format? matching actors to use cases? overview of architecture for Tianhong and Sven
