FilteredPush Team Meeting 2013 Apr 03

Present: Maureen, Paul, James, Ed, Tianhong, James, Bob.

Discussed code dealing with parsing XML annotation documents for NEVP with Ed. Core TcnImageTools starting point is in main github project. Code for actually doing the work is in a branch in symbiota for testing. Ed has branch checked out. Paul has branch running on a test machine at harvard. Patrick needs to test/evaluate. When happy, can move to trunk.

  • Report from Harvard Annotation Event

Bob: Successfull set of demonstrations. Lightning talk appeared to get the point accross. Most interesting thing is that most atenddees were non using ontology based mechanisms. Talks were showing off ome quite mature systems for document (s.l.) annotation. Little conversation with Paulo about query selectors.

  • Upcoming Meetings
    • Hardening Demonstration for Bob to take.

Bob traveling to Stanford on Monday.

Bob: Perhaps may not be a need, opportunity only as part of a 20 minute talk. Might be better use of time to show slides.

Bob: Worth trying to make a good video with audio of the demonstration. Worth doing.

    • OA West coast (will pay expenses of the presenter). Looking for demonstration and higher level technical details of what works and doesn't with OA.

Bob set, no demo. Might have video of demo, as long as it doesn't interfere with editing paper.

    • OA East coast. (essentially same presentation - two sessions for convenience).

Better target for redoing demo.

    • Semantics in biodiversity.(opportunity to develop for publication).

Probably too late to submit. Bob might go on UMB funding. James to check with Joel.

    • SPNHC ( [2] ) ApplePie
      • Registration by May 15
      • Abstracts due May 15

James: What can we reasonably expect to show by then that we haven't shown before and is reasonably contained.

Demo and ? presentation ? poster.

Bob: Perhaps a poster about how we use OA.

Discussion: Possibilites of integrated systems to demonstrate.

  • MCZbase Driver

Maureen: Working on getting credentials to access VM.

  • Embedded Kepler
    • Progress on UI in annotation processor.

Maureen: Refactoring annotation processor code, and code in general, lots of strange dependencies. Doesn't work well develomentaly.

Paul: Set up requirements page.

James: Will look at that.

Tianhong: Actor for preprocessing and streaming into Mongo db. Need to do some post processing in order to produce results consumable by client.

Maureen: Postprocessing depends on requirements for display.

Put off further examination of postprocessing until next week. Next week, review open issues on Embedding_Kepler, will have better definition of UI problems.

    • Work needed on Embedding_Kepler AnnotationInserter to interact with current FP APIs.

Paul: Updated?

Tianhong, updated to use the new FP API. Uses example annotation code to build an annotation, not client helper.

Paul: Potential candidate for SPNHC demo. Harvest data, Launch QC job, create annotations, view results of QC job in overview, ingest individual annotations.

Let's look next Friday at being able to string the pieces together.

Lets review on friday what pieces we have and what are missing.

James Flowering time actor. Have a dataset covering half the flora. Don't have a service.

Bob: Tied into ETC work.

Paul: Larger conversation about providing a service that that actor could consume.

James: Add a service to validate botanist names. HUH can provide...

Paul :add botanist service to agenda for Friday.,

  • Annotations
    • Progress on rewriting dwFP, OAD, and example annotations.

Bob: working through draft. Could use examples

Cases:

  1. Identification - new determination.
  2. Solve with more data - Bernando assertion, these taxa don't occur here.
  3. Associating one resource in the annotation with another. OA has multiple possible solutions. Created synthetic example: Photo gallery service, has api, choice on associations. In domain, as we know, is problematic. Would like to build some more examples with OA containers. Example of someone assering that some manipuations need to be done to an image - case where order is important. Looking for a good biological example.
    • NewOccurrence example for NEVP.
    • Generation of annotations for download/ingest from Symbiota.

Non-Tech

  • Annotations
    • Annotation MS
    • Task Group for Applicability Statement on OA
  • Collaborations
    • Specify/Symbiota
    • SCAN TCN
