Agenda

  • Review Ed's note on editorial process in Symbiota:

FYI: I logged into symbiota2 scan portal as Gene Hall and edited a specimen record as an unapproved editor. One of the attached screenshots show the message display after the edit is submitted. The second shows the edit review form that is accessible to the collection admin and where they would approve and apply, or reject, the edit. The link below is to this form. You will have to be logged in to access it.

Ed: Monitoring changes to omOccurrence table for changed records is one path. Another is building capture of the annotation at the point the editor approves and applies the change.

Paul: Also leaning towards not capturing form submission, but monitoring changes.

Maureen: How determine if something has changed? Update to date last modified?

Ed: Yes.

Maureen: That works for the OAI/PMH provider - when a harvest is done, the date of the previous harvest can be provided to obtain records changed since last data.

Paul: How to detect actual changed fields.

Ed: omOccurEdits contains previous cop(ies) of the record.

Paul: The straightforward to query with a date for just changes.

Maureen: Do you want one annotation per row in omoccuredits? Or one for each edit set? One annotation per occurrence record to cover all changes ce a given date? Per timestamp?

Maureen: Could have the OAI provider provide annotation documents based on such a query (rather than providing occurence record documents).

Ed: omIccrEdits tracks who made the edit.

Paul: Makes sense to then bundle the changes into an annotation by who proposed the change (who made the change, which some editor subsequently approved).

Discussion of notifying specialists of inadeqately determined specimens - within symbiota, probabily needs flag field at species level identifications, otherwise genus/family level identifications are inadequate. Ed will frame some requirements for David and Paul.
