OA West coast (will pay expenses of the presenter). Looking for demonstration and higher level technical details of what works and doesn't with OA.

OA East coast. (essentially same presentation - two sessions for convenience).

Bob: FP Annotation for GoldenGate documents - OA markup of a document by adding a textural tag to a portion of a document. Discussing this with Guido.

Bob: We should have mention of FP and annotations in someone's talk.

Bob: Time to have a stable version Being used to produce the contract between producers and consumers as defined in the rules. Had sloppy name spaces, other issues, etc, that need cleaning up. Making into consistent ontological version of TDWG DarwinCore. Looking at what may need to be object properties derived from dwc:_Id data properties.

  • Embedded Kepler

Tianhong: Installed Fedora, got running, is providing URLs that Kepler can use. Working on putting components out one by one to development machine. Further investigation shows that build area may not be severe block. Will work if we run Kepler with existing actors without invoking build system (filesystem configuration). Writing and deploying a new actor will involve access to the build area.

Will still need FilteredPush side components to invoke kepler.

Workaround 1: Modify actors to not use build system.

simple actors are working already, i.e., if their execution does not require the build system

Q: Do you need to modify actors to access data?

Tianhong: Not really. We can have actors access data e.g. via url. --> will modify curation actor(s) to avoid use of build system

Workaround 2: Use webservice deployment of Kepler.

Tianhong: Talking to folks at SDSC to figure out some configuration issues.

David: Wrote RDF and OWL that allows a transitive relationship between all of the nodes in a taxonomic heirarchy (child of, derived from parentid). Was able to bring into triple store and use Jena to match annotation to interests on taxon. Added inference model to fuseki, allowing inferred data to be included in queries on the endpoint. Was able to link scientific names to bodies in an OA annotation. Next step is to get data into triplestore from harvest, and expressing the query as an interest.

James: Can the researchers view the taxonomic heirarchy on which reasoning is happening?

Maureen: We can't simply trust symbiota, as programmers intervene.

David: Very straightforward to write a query to retrieve any data that we are using for reasoning, return as xml with a stylesheet applied, and users can query for basis.

Bertram: I probably asked this before, but just curious what "reasoning" we do (and what reasoner we use). Might be useful e.g. in the Euler or ETC projects (synergy :)

A: ... annotations match interest... Taxon heirarchy, interest in higher taxon, annotation on lower taxon, inferr that annotation matches interest.

Using Jena/OWL reasoner; transitive/child node property (?) Property on the line of isIncludedTaxon (developed from direct edges in graph).

Maureen: Working on the harvesting data side. Have a harvester - added as projects in FP tools. Can put data into fedora, solar, and triplestore. OAI Provider on FP1 that provides a view of symbiotas taxonomic authority file. Fedora and solar also on FP1

    • dwcFP ObjectProperties, DataProperties.

Paul: Goes right to Bertram's question - what reasoning will we need to do, and what object properties will we need to add to do these.

Bob: Time to review the use case scenarioes and look at what we need to reason on.
